A fine substantial early Victorian cylinder bureau, a quite unique period bureau with impressive proportions, please note the bureau is of all one construction and the pedestals will not detach, to each pedestal the drawers are with oak linings, the drawer fronts displaying stylised handles, the superbly crafted cylinder fall opens and closes with ease, commensurate with age there is evident slight natural shrinkage as per photos, the fall retracted reveals a fully fitted interior to include a magnificent arrangement of 24 pigeon holes above four diminutive drawers with fan pulls, the writing surface with well I take to be original to the bureau, this has aged and shows wear but the writing surface as with the rest of the bureau has been sympathetically professionally re-polished, to the knee hole space two recessed doors enclosing cupboard space, the cupboard space can equally be accessed from the back by further doors as per photos, the base and shelf within the cupboard are later replacements, a finely detailed brass egg and dart moulding to the plinth is equally matched by the bobbin moulding detail to the top, the bureau is indeed a fine example from the period.
The overall dimensions are 55 inches in width, 49 . 5 inches in height and 39 inches in depth.
